About Melody
Pilates
Melody discovered pilates after undergoing a serious lower back injury while dancing in NYC. She turned to Pilates to prevent future injuries and keep her body balanced and conditioned. In an effort to help others enjoy life energized and pain free, Melody became a Stott Pilates International fully certified instructor at Pilates Center of New York.Upon completion of her pilates certification she taught pilates at the Pilates Center of New York and Reebok Sports Club. In 2003, Melody returned to RI to teach pilates and dance throughout New England. She recently advanced her pilates certification at Pilates Academy International (NYC) and was invited to become a Certifying Pilates Instructor. Melody is a Cancer Exercise Specialist through the Pink Ribbon Program, Cardiolates Certified Instructor, and has attended specialty workshops for golf, anatomy for movement and body conditioning, injury prevention, and rehabilitation at Pilates Academy International and Mt. Sinai Hospital.
For the past two years, Melody participated in the “Pilates for Pink” program, a national fundraiser initiative for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation sponsored by SHAPE Magazine.
Dance
Dancing since she was able to walk, Melody started her formal training in RI at the Carolyn Dutra Dance Studio. As a member of the Carolyn Dutra Dance Company and Southern RI Youth Ballet Company, Melody performed at Walt Disney World, Epcot, Universal Studios (Florida), Carnegie Hall, Czech Republic, Slovakia, England, and Wales. She graduated from Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston (DTCB) Teacher Training Program. While attending DTCB, she was awarded two jazz dance scholarships.After graduating from high school, Melody was awarded a dance and academic scholarship to Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. While a student at Marymount Manhattan College, Melody was invited to join the Marymount Manhattan College Dance Company. As a member of the company, she was chosen to be the assistant rehearsal director.
In 2002, she graduated cum laude and was awarded the “Silver M” four outstanding leadership and involvement in the Marymount Manhattan College community. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance with a minor in Musical Theater. Past credits while living in NYC include: Dancers’ at Work ‘98 & ’00, Jose Limon’s “Psalms” and “There is a Time,” Dance Captain/Rita off-Broadway revival “The Boyfriend,” Company Member ESS Danceworks, dance concerts at Swing 46, Teresa Lang Theater, The Hatch, Merce Cunningham Studio, Dance Forum, and Bridge for Dance. Melody was a dance instructor for The Ailey School’s Junior Division and Reebok Sports Club (NYC).
Since returning to RI, Melody continues to teach dance and choreograph throughout New England and is a professional dancer with Fusionworks Dance Company.
